The 175th Wing, based at Warfield Air National Guard Base in Middle River, Maryland, flies the Fairchild Republic A-10C Thunderbolt II, better known as the “Warthog.” The 104th Fighter Squadron, part of the wing, specializes in close air support, combat search and rescue, and forward air control. Their A-10s are instantly recognizable for their durable airframe, heavy armor, and the GAU-8/A Avenger 30mm cannon. The Maryland “Warhawks” proudly carry the state flag and unit insignia on their tails, symbolizing both their heritage and their close ties to the Baltimore area.
